 Ordering

I am a customer with a local physician; can I have my
prescription filled in Canada through your service?

Yes, you can. We do require you to complete and sign our patient questionnaire/order form, and mail or fax it to us along with your valid prescription. We have a licensed Canadian physician on our staff who will approve your prescription under his/her Canadian license.

Do you require a prescription?
Yes, we do. Just like your local pharmacy, we do require a valid prescription from a physician licensed to practice in your area. Be cautious of any online pharmacy service that does not require a prescription to purchase medications.

What is the maximum quantity of medications that I can purchase?
If your prescription allows it, we can send you a maximum of a 3-month supply of each medication. If your prescription allows refills, we can refill these for you every 3 months as well.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa and MasterCard. We also accept cheques or money orders; however, please allow extra time for us to verify personal checks. We also accept postal money orders, but they must be the international type made payable to Universal Drugstore.

Can you deal directly with my insurance company?
Because the insurance system in Canada is different than those in other countries, we unfortunately cannot deal directly with your insurance company. If you have private insurance, you should contact your insurance company prior to ordering from us to see if they will reimburse you for prescriptions purchased from Canada. We will issue you a receipt for all of your prescriptions, and these can be submitted to your insurance company for payment.

Can I purchase narcotics or controlled drugs through your prescription service?
No. We are not allowed to ship narcotics such as Tylenol #3, morphine, and codeine, or controlled substances such as Valium through customs.

 Products

Are all of the medications that we have locally also available in Canada?
While we do have the majority of medications available in Canada, sometimes there are products that are not yet available in Canada.

Are the drug savings from Canada always dramatic?
Most customers save an average of 40% to 50% on their prescriptions. Sometimes the savings can go as high as 80%. However, please note that while the majority of medications in Canada are cheaper, there are exceptions.

Are there differences between local medications and those available in Canada?
Due to licensing agreements in different countries of the world, sometimes drug manufacturers market the same drug under different names in different countries. These are different trade names for the same medication. For example, “Prilosec” is the trade name for omeprazole in some countries, while in Canada it is marketed under the name “Losec”, even though they are both the same medication manufactured by Astra Zeneca.

What is a "generic" drug?
A "generic" drug is quite simply a copy of the Brand name product that contains the same active ingredient and meets the same rigorous pharmaceutical standards as Brand name drugs for quality, purity and strength before they can be marketed. Slight differences are possible but not in any of the active pharmaceutical ingredients, nor in the therapeutic effect of the product itself. All generic drugs and brand name drugs are treated similarly and must be reviewed and approved by Health Canada (the Canadian equivalent to the US FDA) before they can be sold. Canada has some of the highest standards and strictest guidelines in the world for the manufacturing of "generic" drugs. While many people believe that "generic" drugs are somehow a different medication, they are not. They are equivalent medications, available at a much lower price.

Can I purchase narcotics or controlled drugs through your prescription service?
No. We are not allowed to ship narcotics such as Tylenol #3, morphine, and codeine, or controlled substances such as Valium through the border.
